We work hard so dogs and cats can get the medical care they need. We love pets and value the joy they bring to our lives. So, it’s no surprise that our pets may help influence or make our workday better. In this installment of our Working at Trupanion series, we sat down with Trupanion payroll specialist, Taylor Roberts to learn more about what it’s like to work remotely in Seattle for a leader in the pet industry.
Work remotely in Seattle with Trupanion
Current role at Trupanion
I am currently Trupanion’s payroll specialist and have been in this role for a little over two years.
How did your career journey start at Trupanion?
I started with Trupanion in June 2014 within a week of earning my bachelor of science in actuarial science at Central Washington University and moved back to Seattle. I started in the claims department and moved to finance a little over two years ago.
What do you love most about working remotely at Trupanion?
What I love most about working remotely, is not having to deal with commuting. I live in Queen Anne so it’s not all that far but not dealing with that has been quite nice, especially as we have such short days and not-so-great weather in the fall and winter. Being able to sleep in a bit later without having to drive in or go catch the bus has been awesome.
What do you love most about your role?
I guess what I love most about my current role is how much improvement payroll as a whole has seen over these last few years. It was for a long time just a one-person team but now there are three of us doing our best to make everything as efficient as it can be.
What’s the favorite part of your day?
Lately, my favorite part of the day since there are only 8 or so hours of daylight is a midday walk with Ryder. I’m lucky that in my neighborhood I’m only a 15-20 minute walk to some of the best views Seattle has to offer such as Kerry Park and a couple of lesser-known views. Being able to take a break and enjoy the daylight is huge for my mental and physical health.
What’s it like to work on the Trupanion finance team?
It’s a great team. Naturally, everybody works so hard and does such great things, but we all like to take moments to laugh and have fun. We have a full department group chat in Teams and we’re cracking each other up and sending photo updates of our pets all the time. They’re a great bunch of people that I respect.
How does your pet help you throughout the day?
Ryder, my nine-year-old Golden Retriever is the biggest goofball. He often reminds me that I’m not paying enough attention to him throughout the day for some playtime, potty breaks, or quick walks. Without him, I would probably be glued to my computer without any breaks. He’s constantly making me laugh and really is my uncertified therapy dog.
What do you value most about the work you do?
I value that with my dedication and hard work I can get everybody paid on time and accurately, keeping everyone happy and helping pets in multiple countries.
Work remotely in Seattle and help dogs and cats
Your pets can help influence the work that you do. Whether you help manage projects or work in a specialty department, chances are your best friend may be there to help remind you to take a break, get outside, or stop to enjoy the view.
